Treats at Harry Potter World: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Those who know my husband and I will know we have a not so secret love for Harry Potter. While dating we had annual passes to Universal Orlando and this past March we decided it was time to get them again. Long story short: We’ve tried many of the treats. Here are some of the good, and the not so good.

The Good

Butterbeer

I wasn’t going to put this in here since pretty much everyone know’s about it and I prefer another drink more, but then I figured why not? It is good, especially the frothiness on top. Most people prefer frozen, but I like them both the same. My husband and I have made what is considered to be the real recipe at home, and I can say it does taste pretty much exactly like it. You can find it here (listed as #1).

Where to find it: The outside butterbeer barrels in Hogsmeade, The Leaky Cauldron, The Three Broomsticks, Fountain of Fair Fortune, and The Hopping Pot

This can be found at The Hopping Pot

Pumpkin Juice

My preferred drink of choice. Less sugary than butterbeer and it comes in a bottle so you don’t have to drink it all at once. If you love anything pumpkin, you will like this.

Where to find it: Pretty much everywhere

We usually buy one to take home

Butterbeer Potted Cream

Tastes light and fluffy. Not too sugary. Basically delicious.

Where to find it: The Leaky Cauldron

unnamed

Good for dessert or a snack!

Anything from Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor

Offering unique flavors of both soft serve and hard packed ice cream, this place is definitely worth your time. My husband and I have tried most of the flavors and all are delicious. My personal favorites are butterbeer and strawberry peanut butter which (Fun Fact!) Harry himself enjoyed in the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Where to find it: Diagon Alley

Best ice cream at Universal

Peppermint Toads

Better tasting (in my opinion) cuter, and easier to eat than Chocolate Frogs, although unfortunately they don’t come with any collectors cards.

Where to find it: Honeydukes and Sugarplum’s Sweet Shop

unnamed

They’ll hop into your stomach

The Bad

Pumpkin Cake

Ok this wasn’t that bad (unlike my picture), but it was very sweet and the orange icing was in fact orange flavored which you don’t really expect in a pumpkin cake. Also very messy and sticky.

Orange and Pumpkin don’t really mix well

Cauldron Cake

Never again. It looked so promising, and the fact the cauldron was re-usable was a bonus. But this was NOT worth $10. The entire top half is just icing, which is also super thick and not fun to eat. We ended up dumping the majority of it out. By the time we got to the chocolate cake (which was just ok) we no longer had a desire to eat any more. Unless there is at least 4 of you sharing then I would not recommend.

Heart attack in a Cauldron

The Ugly

Ok I’ll admit, there really isn’t an ugly. But I was very disappointed to learn a few weeks ago that they got rid of my most favorite treat: The Pumpkin Tart. Reasonably priced and delicious it was always my go to. My only hope is that one day it returns. Seriously though, why did they get rid of this and why do they have a cauldron cake instead?

Top five sweet treats at Universal.

Gone but never forgotten
