5 Favorite Spots in Ireland

Lately I’ve been hit hard with the travel bug. I was very fortunate growing up to have many travel experiences, but lately my husband and I have been focusing more towards achieving our life goals. While there is definitely travel in our future, it is not a priority right now. And there is nothing wrong with that! Sometimes you have to give up a few things to accomplish your dreams.

With that being said, I was fortunate enough to study abroad in Ireland in the summer of 2015. I’ve been really missing it as of late so I decided to write this post about some of favorite things I experienced while there.

1) Cliffs of Moher

Pretty much the top of everyone’s list while visiting Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher are spectacular. We were also extremely lucky with the weather the day we went, which resulted in some great pictures. One tip: I would not recommend bringing small children. There are no safety bars (actually nothing at all) preventing you from falling off the cliff. I almost had a mini panic attack when a family was trying to take a picture of their babies/toddlers sitting on the edge.

2) Blarney Castle/ Cork

This wasn’t included in our travel itinerary, but couple of my friends and I used our one free day to travel over here, and I’m so glad we did. Kissing the Blarney Stone and climbing the castle before hand is probably the scariest thing I have ever done,  but very much worth it. The grounds and gardens are also beautiful and fun to explore. There’s even a poison garden which included one plant in particular that can kill you just by touch. Cork was also a wonderful city, and St. Birr’s Cathedral was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.

3) Celtic Steps

This is a show in Killarney featuring the original song and dance of Ireland, and I absolutely loved it. The singer’s voice in the show is absolutely beautiful, and they’ve been running the show for many years now, so they definitely know what they’re doing.

4) Dingle

Dingle is a little sea town on the Dingle Peninsula, another place which offers amazing views of the coast of Ireland. I wish we had spent more than just a few hours here, because it really is a cute town. It’s home to the famous Murphy’s Ice Cream, which although pricey; is definitely worth it. I highly recommend the flavor Sea Salt.

 5) Bunratty Castle

A dinner show in which your only utensils are a dagger (steak knife) and a spoon for desert, this experience transports you back to medieval times complete with old folk carols. Plus you get to eat dinner in an actual castle, so there’s that.
