Bern’s Steakhouse is known as an upscale Tampa staple. It’s been famous for many years, and also boasts the world’s largest wine cellar.
It had been my list of places to eat for a long time, and while we still have yet to do a dinner date there, we did have the privedlge of visiting the Harry Waugh Dessert Room with some friends and had quite the experience. The Dessert Room is interesting because you do not actually need a reservation, as it is in a separate part of the restaurant and it is first-come first serve. Each party is placed in their own booth/room of sorts, and there is live music playing. Each booth even has a phone where you can call the piano player and request a song!
While the entire experience felt almost too fancy for us, we did enjoy ourselves and the dessert was delicious. We also ate some scrumptious dessert cheeses to finish the evening.
My husband tried the Taste of Bern’s (pictured above) which included sample size portions of the following signature desserts: Macadamia Decadence Cake, King Midas, Banana Cheese Pie, Chocolate Cheese Pie, and Vanilla Cheesecake. I tried the Exotic Vanilla (pictured below) , which had Vanilla bean cheesecake, mini vanilla creme brulee tart, vanilla bean mousse with exotic fruit creme, passion fruit sauce and exotic fruit sorbet made with mango, pineapple, passion fruit, and banana. Both were as good as they sound, and surprisingly not as pricey as I thought they would be.
While this isn’t a place we would eat often, it is definitely perfect for special occasions or a fun way to end a progressive dinner.
Side note: This restaurant gave me undeniable Phantom of the Opera vibes.
